The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of 12 persons in a fatal road crash in Kogi State.
In addition, two other passengers sustained injuries in the incident.
Crash Occurred Late Friday Night
Meanwhile, the FRSC Sector Commander in Kogi State, Tenimu Etuku, confirmed the incident on Saturday.
According to him, the crash occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Friday along the Ejule–Enugu highway.
Specifically, the accident happened at Iboko community in Idah Local Government Area.
Bus Rammed Into Faulty Truck
Etuku said the crash involved an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Romchi Mass Transit.
At the time, the bus was travelling from Abuja to the eastern part of the country.
However, the vehicle rammed into a parked faulty articulated truck.
According to the sector commander, over-speeding caused the collision.

One Child Among the Dead
Sadly, Etuku confirmed that one child was among the 12 people who died.
He described the accident as “fatal and very unfortunate.”
Following the crash, FRSC rescue operatives moved swiftly to the scene.
As a result, they evacuated the injured passengers to Mercy of Jesus Hospital, Ejule, for treatment.
Meanwhile, officials deposited the bodies of the deceased at the morgue.
FRSC Warns Motorists
Subsequently, the FRSC commander expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
He also warned motorists against excessive speed and reckless driving.
“At this yuletide, motorists must be careful and adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations to avoid such accidents and wastage of precious lives,” Etuku said.
Furthermore, he noted that compliance with road safety rules would help reduce traffic crashes nationwide.
Finally, he urged drivers to exercise patience and maintain safe driving practices.
“I hereby urge drivers to exercise patience and maintain safe driving practices, especially during long-distance journeys in this yuletide,” he added.
