12 Women Taken in Borno Boko Haram Attack

Suspected Boko Haram fighters abducted 12 women on Saturday in Mussa district, Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State. The victims were returning from their farms around 5 p.m. when the attackers seized them. Residents quickly reported the abductions to local authorities.

Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the kidnappings. He said the police launched a thorough investigation to locate the missing women. “Twelve females were abducted yesterday by suspected Boko Haram terrorists while returning from the farm,” he said. Security personnel have intensified patrols in the area.

Magumeri Attack: Homes, Shops Set Ablaze

In a separate incident on Sunday, suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked Magumeri Local Government Area. The assailants stormed the community at around 1:15 a.m. and opened fire. They burned houses, vehicles, and shops before fleeing the area.

ASP Daso confirmed that no lives were lost during the Magumeri attack. Authorities quickly restored order following a coordinated response from security agencies. The Executive Chairman of Magumeri, Abubakar Abdulkadir Yaro, praised the military, Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), hunters, and volunteers for their swift action. “The insurgents caused damage to property but our forces successfully protected lives,” he said.

Community Reaction and Government Response

Residents expressed fear and called for immediate action. One resident, Ibrahim Hassan, described the attack as well-coordinated and alarming. He said people woke up to gunfire and screaming while attackers set multiple properties on fire.

Governor Babagana Zulum declared Monday, November 24, as a day of fasting and prayers for divine intervention. He encouraged all residents, regardless of faith, to participate and support security efforts. “Your support, through prayers and cooperation with our security forces, strengthens our fight against insurgency,” he stated.

Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, highlighted the need for coordinated action across northern Nigeria. Speaking at the Arewa Consultative Forum anniversary in Kaduna, he emphasized that the North has the resources, leadership, and capacity to address insecurity. He urged unity, collaboration, and strategic planning among stakeholders to overcome the challenges.

Residents continue to praise the presence of security forces and their reassurance. Authorities remain on high alert as investigations continue into both the abductions and property attacks.
