$18 Billion Recovery Credited to FIRS Reforms Under Adedeji

A coalition of civil society organisations says the $18 billion recovery achieved through tax reforms proves the ingenuity of FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji. The groups claim the funds had previously been lost to tax evasion and illicit financial flows.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Comrade Ibrahim Bello said Adedeji championed changes to tax laws. One of the reforms exempted people earning N800,000 or less per year from personal income tax.

Technology Drives Simplified Tax Payments

Bello stated that Adedeji also introduced the TaxProMax platform and USSD code *829#. These tools simplified payment and improved access to tax services.

More than 72 CSOs dismissed recent allegations against the FIRS chairman. They described the accusations as tactics by groups seeking to damage his reputation.

$18 Billion Recovery Strengthens Revenue

The coalition added that Adedeji’s reforms boosted government revenue and contributed to economic stability. Representatives of several organisations praised his leadership and commitment to transparency.

They said they convened to counter false narratives and defend reforms that, in their words, “restored hope.”
