Jigawa Tragedy: 18 Killed in Deadly Dutse Highway Crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of 18 persons in a fatal auto crash in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The incident occurred on Tuesday and involved two Volkswagen cars and a tipper truck.

The FRSC disclosed this in a statement issued in Dutse by the state spokesperson, Corps Route Commander Yahaya Ibrahim.

How the Accident Happened

According to the FRSC, the crash occurred at about 12:15 p.m. at Danmasara village along the Dutse–Kwanar Huguma road. Preliminary findings showed that excessive speeding and a tyre burst caused the accident.

Furthermore, the loss of control following the tyre burst led to a collision involving the two cars and the tipper.

Casualties and Rescue Efforts

Ibrahim said 20 people were involved in the crash. Out of that number, 18 persons, including children, died on the spot.

On the other hand, the tipper driver and his assistant sustained injuries. FRSC rescue teams evacuated the injured victims and the bodies of the deceased to Dutse General Hospital for treatment and documentation.

Rising Road Fatalities in Jigawa

Meanwhile, the FRSC recalled that a similar accident occurred on December 25 along the Ringim–Sankara–Beguwa road in Ringim Local Government Area. That crash claimed 11 lives and left 12 others injured.

In conclusion, the Corps warned motorists against speeding and stressed the importance of regular vehicle checks to prevent tyre-related failures.
