Three-time African champions Nigeria beat Algeria 2-0 on Saturday evening to punch a ticket to the semifinals of the 2025: Africa Cup of Nations.

Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams were on target to hand the Eagles a place in Wednesday’s ‘last 4’ clash against the Atlas Lions.

Nigeria dominated the first half with 62.5% possession reflecting their pressure on the Algerians.

There was a VAR check on a possible Calvin Bassey deflected goal with half an hour played but after a VAR check, the whole circumference of the ball was deemed not to have crossed the goal line.

Osimhen however made it 1-0 in the 47th minute as he headed home a Bruno Onyemaechi pinpoint cross.Nigeria doubled their lead 10 minutes later through Akor Adams who profited from a Victor Osimhen assist after an earlier great work from Alex Iwobi.

Akor Adams had two chances to add to Algeria’s misery but was unlucky not to see his efforts come to fruition with the latter striking the foot of the post.

The Algerians were apparently frustrated by the Nigeria’s lead and became too physical in approach.
