The Tunisia Football Federation are reportedly keen on hiring Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle.
The Tunisian FA sacked Sami Trabelsi who was sacked in the aftermath of Tunisia’s round of 16 defeat suffered against Mali on penalties.
Tunisia lost 3-2 to Nigeria in the group stage in what was considered as one of the biggest fixtures in prospect before the start of the tournament.
Chelle won the hearts of football faithful in Morocco with his team’s attacking brand of football and was duly acknowledged by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) as the best tactician that was hypothetically installed as Coach to the Best XI players of the group stage.
Former Nigerian coach Jose Peseiro who led the Super Eagles to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’ Ivoire where the three-time African champions were beaten 2-1 in the final by the hosts, was similarly poached by several African teams albeit he now works in the Saudi Arabian league.
Chelle has met his ultimatum of reaching the semifinals of the AFCON handed to him by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) when he was appointed.Nigeria will face hosts Morocco in Wednesday evening’s semifinals clash as they seek a fourth continental glory.
The Super Eagles missed out of a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico – making it the second successive World Cup editions that the supposed African giants will miss.
