2026: Gov Oyebanji Urges Calm as Ekiti Heads to Governorship Election

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has urged residents and political stakeholders to remain calm and law-abiding as the state prepares for the 2026 governorship election.

The governor made the appeal on Thursday during his New Year statewide broadcast, where he emphasised the need for peace and unity. According to him, political activities must not disrupt the stability Ekiti currently enjoys.

Oyebanji said his administration would continue to protect lives and property before, during, and after the election period.

Oyebanji Assures Residents of Security

The governor reaffirmed that security remains the top priority of his government. He acknowledged concerns over insecurity in neighbouring states but said Ekiti has adopted proactive and strategic security measures.

“Let me assure all Ekiti people that your security remains our number one priority,” Oyebanji said. He added that the state would continue to enjoy peace under his leadership. He noted that sustained peace is essential for credible elections and meaningful development.

Governor Appeals to Political Stakeholders

As preparations intensify for the June 20 governorship poll, Oyebanji appealed to political parties, candidates, and supporters to conduct themselves responsibly.

He commended stakeholders for the maturity shown so far in the political process. However, he warned against intimidation, violence, and actions capable of undermining public order.

“As the incumbent governor and candidate of the APC, I will ensure a political environment free of intimidation and unhealthy activities,” he said, urging others to do the same.

Oyebanji Highlights Development Gains

Oyebanji also reflected on achievements recorded in 2025, saying his administration completed several inherited and newly initiated projects across the state.

He highlighted the completion of the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport and the commencement of commercial flights, describing it as a boost for investment, tourism, and exports.

The governor added that 2026 would see accelerated road projects, including township roads, the Ring Road project, and the second overhead bridge in Ado-Ekiti.

₦1.4bn Youth Agriculture Profit Distribution

Oyebanji further disclosed that the government distributed ₦1.4 billion as profit to youths participating in the Bring-Back-the-Youths-in-Agriculture programme.

He said the initiative has created jobs, boosted food security, and empowered young people economically. According to him, the programme will be expanded in 2026 to deepen youth participation in commercial agriculture.

Governor Thanks Tinubu, Stakeholders

Oyebanji praised President Bola Tinubu for federal support, particularly the approval for the reconstruction of the Itawure–Aramoko–Ado Road.

He also thanked lawmakers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders for their continued support.
