NDLEA Arrests Former Ibeju-Lekki Councilor

NDLEA (National Drug Law Enforcement Agency), operatives arrested former two-term councilor Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan. They detained the 45-year-old on March 2 2026 at his residence in Ilado Ibeju-Lekki Lagos State.

Moreover the arrest followed credible intelligence that tied him to illicit drug sale and trafficking. Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan previously represented the Orimedu community at Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area.

Agents Recovered Large Quantity Of Cannabis

Furthermore NDLEA officials searched the residence during the operation. They recovered 40 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis, from one of the rooms.NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi confirmed the recovery. “The 45-year-old ex-local council chief who currently serves as a legislative aide was arrested on Monday 2nd March 2026 at his residence in Ilado Ibeju-Lekki Lagos where a search was conducted and 40 kilograms of skunk a strain of cannabis were recovered from one of his rooms” Femi Babafemi said.

Suspect Admitted Ownership Of Drugs

As a result Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan admitted ownership of the exhibit. He also accepted ownership of the property where agents found the cannabis.

Additionally he confirmed his political background. He said he had previously served two terms as a Councilor representing the Orimedu community in the Ibeju-Lekki local government council.

Former Councilor Now Faces Prosecution

Consequently NDLEA officials stated they would prosecute the case. However, Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan worked as a legislative aide at the time of his arrest.

Therefore the agency placed him in custody for further investigation. The arrest formed part of wider efforts against drug trafficking in Lagos State.
