President Bola Tinubu has donated all his salaries since assuming office to support members of the armed forces.
Tinubu announced the donation as part of activities to mark his 74th birthday.
He said the funds will go into a special account to support soldiers, particularly those injured in the line of duty.
He directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to create the account.
“From all the salaries that I’ve earned, the accountant-general shall establish an account to fund those men and women,” he said.
Tinubu said the fund will support personnel who have suffered injuries, including those who lost limbs.
He said the initiative aims to give them hope and improve their future.
Furthermore, the president called on state governors, members of the national assembly, and the private sector to support the initiative.
He urged stakeholders to contribute to the fund to strengthen support for military personnel.
Tinubu said the move reflects his commitment to national unity and security.
“It is a symbol of love and commitment to the growth and unity of this country,” he said.
Meanwhile, he reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to tackle insecurity.
He said the government will invest in armaments to defeat insurgents and restore stability.
“We will invest in armaments to defeat the insurgents. We will do it together,” he said.
