APC Plateau Mourns the Passing of Mama Lydia Yilwatda, Mother of National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Plateau State chapter has expressed deep sorrow and profound grief over the death of Mama Lydia Yilwatda, the beloved mother of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the APC. The party issued a heartfelt condolence message through its Acting Publicity Secretary, Mr. Shittu Bamaiyi, describing the loss as not only a deeply personal tragedy for the Yilwatda family but also a significant blow to the entire APC structure in Plateau State and across Nigeria.

In the official statement, the APC emphasized that Mama Lydia’s demise comes at a particularly sensitive and painful time for her family, especially for her son, Professor Yilwatda, whose leadership responsibilities are increasingly demanding. “Her passing has left a vacuum, especially now when her guidance, prayers, and unwavering support were most needed,” the party lamented.

A Pillar of Faith and Community Leadership

Mama Lydia Yilwatda was more than just the mother of a political figure. She was widely respected as a dedicated Christian leader and a pillar within the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN). The APC eulogized her as a woman of exceptional virtue, humility, and spiritual strength. She actively served as a women’s leader and community builder, not just in Plateau State, but also in neighboring regions such as Borno, Yobe, and Bauchi States.

Together with her late husband, Reverend Toma Yilwatda, she was instrumental in the spiritual and social upliftment of countless lives, helping to spread the gospel and strengthen church institutions across Northern Nigeria.

A Legacy of Service, Faith, and Excellence

According to the APC statement, Mama Lydia’s legacy will continue to live on through the values she instilled in her children and the impactful life she led. “What comforts us in this moment of mourning is that she lived a life marked by service, faith, and compassion—leaving behind a legacy of honor that is reflected in her children and community contributions,” the party said.

Her death is not only a family loss; it resonates deeply with the broader society. The APC stressed that her passing is a significant loss to the Church, the Women Fellowship Group, and the Plateau community. Her absence will be keenly felt among religious circles, women’s groups, and civic organizations that benefitted from her selfless service and mentorship.

Condolences and Prayers for Eternal Rest

The APC Plateau State chapter extended its heartfelt condolences to Professor Nentawe Yilwatda and the entire Yilwatda family, urging them to draw strength from the enduring legacy their matriarch left behind. “We stand in solidarity with our National Chairman in this time of sorrow. May God, in His infinite mercy, grant Mama Lydia’s soul eternal peace and comfort the family she has left behind,” the statement concluded.
