Family, Colleagues Welcome Her Safe Return
Abuja-based lawyer and National Youth Service Corps member Eunice Ameh has regained her freedom days after kidnappers abducted her in the Federal Capital Territory.
Human rights lawyer Festus Ogun confirmed her release in a post shared on X on Sunday.
He revealed that negotiators secured her freedom after ransom payment.
“Eunice, the Abuja lawyer earlier abducted, has been freed, after payment of ransom,” Ogun wrote.
In addition, a family member confirmed that Ameh returned safely on Sunday morning.
“Eunice has been found unharmed this morning,” the source said.
Disappearance Sparked Concern Across Legal Community
Ameh reportedly disappeared on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, shortly after she closed from work in the Maitama area of Abuja.
She had recently started working as a Sales Manager at Blades and Butchers Ltd on Lake Chad Crescent, Maitama.
At the same time, she was preparing to complete her National Youth Service Corps programme.
Family members said they last saw her around 5:40 p.m. while she headed home to Life Camp, where she lived in a corps members’ lodge.
Soon after her disappearance, relatives contacted the Maitama Police Division and informed NYSC officials. Security agencies later began search operations.
NBA Pressed Security Agencies for Action
Meanwhile, the incident triggered widespread concern within the Nigerian Bar Association.
NBA President Afam Osigwe had earlier urged security agencies to intensify rescue efforts.
“When a young lawyer goes missing, the pain is not distant to the Nigerian Bar Association; it is personal,” Osigwe stated.
Furthermore, he described the legal profession as a united community built on shared sacrifices and responsibilities.
Her safe return has now brought relief to her family, friends, colleagues, and members of the legal profession across the country.
