Adeboye Calls for Urgent Action on Insecurity
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has called on the Federal Government to issue a 90-day ultimatum to security chiefs to eliminate terrorists across the country.
According to the cleric, the worsening security situation demands decisive and immediate action. Therefore, security leaders must deliver results within a defined timeframe or step down from their positions.
Adeboye made the remarks in a video shared on his X handle on Tuesday.
Security Chiefs Must Be Held Accountable
While speaking on the country’s security challenges, Adeboye stressed the importance of accountability among top security officials.
He noted that although citizens can only advise the Commander-in-Chief, the government must demand measurable results from those responsible for national security.
“If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say quietly to our government, move fast. And tell our security chiefs, get rid of these terrorists within 90 days, or resign,” he said.
Furthermore, he urged authorities to ensure that security agencies remain focused on achieving concrete outcomes in the fight against terrorism.
Cleric Demands Action Against Terror Sponsors
Beyond tackling terrorists, Adeboye insisted that the government must also target those financing violent groups.
According to him, security operations should not stop at arresting or eliminating attackers. Instead, authorities should identify and prosecute their sponsors, regardless of their social or political influence.
“When giving orders to the service chiefs, they should make it clear that they are not only to eliminate the terrorists. They should eliminate their sponsors, no matter how influential they may be,” he stated.
As a result, he believes the country can achieve more lasting progress in addressing insecurity.
Adeboye Recalls Directive by Former President
Meanwhile, the cleric recalled a similar directive issued by a former Nigerian president to security chiefs.
According to Adeboye, the late president gave security officials three months to end Boko Haram activities or resign from office.
He explained that security operatives initially responded quickly to the order. However, the administration did not fully enforce the directive after the deadline expired.
“There was a president, unfortunately he’s dead now, who called the service chiefs together and said, ‘I give you three months. Get rid of all these Boko Haram people, or resign,’” he recalled.
Experience Shapes Current Recommendation
Adeboye revealed that he later met with the former president after the deadline had passed.
Consequently, that experience influenced his current recommendation to the government.
He maintained that authorities must not only set targets but also ensure strict enforcement of such directives.
In addition, he argued that firm action would strengthen public confidence in the nation’s security architecture.
Renewed Calls Amid Rising Security Concerns
Adeboye’s comments come amid renewed concerns over terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping in several parts of the country.
Recently, many Nigerians have called for stronger measures to tackle insecurity and protect lives and property.
Therefore, the cleric’s remarks add to growing demands for urgent reforms and more effective security operations nationwide.
Ultimately, Adeboye believes that a clear deadline, combined with accountability and action against terror financiers, could help accelerate efforts to restore peace and stability across Nigeria.
