Police uncover illegal gun factory in Yobe, arrest seven suspects

Security operatives have dismantled an illegal firearms fabrication workshop and arrested seven suspects in Yobe State.

The Yobe State Police Command has uncovered an illegal Dane gun manufacturing factory in Potiskum. Seven suspects linked to the operation were arrested.

According to the police, the raid was carried out on June 2 following credible intelligence that some blacksmiths were illegally producing firearms. The workshop was said to be located along Danchuwa Road in Potiskum. Officers from the Potiskum Area Command and the Divisional Police Headquarters conducted the operation.

During the raid, police recovered several items, including fabricated pistols, 24 muzzle pipes, nine gun butts, four unserviceable Dane guns, a filing machine and a cutlass. The suspects are currently being investigated to identify possible collaborators, buyers and the intended use of the weapons.

The operation forms part of the Yobe State Police Command’s renewed efforts to combat crime and illegal arms production. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to uncover other firearms fabrication centres that may be operating in the area.

Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
