The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned the Federal High Court judgment ordering the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and several other opposition parties, describing the ruling as a threat to Nigeria’s multiparty democracy.

In a statement issued on Monday, the party expressed solidarity with the affected political parties and urged Nigerians to resist any attempt to weaken opposition voices ahead of the 2027 general election.

Earlier on Monday, a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the ADC, Accord Party (AP), Action Peoples Party (APP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and other political parties over alleged failure to meet constitutional requirements for continued registration.

Reacting to the development, the NDC said the judgment should concern all Nigerians regardless of political affiliation.

“The Federal High Court judgment deregistering the ADC, Accord, APP, ZLP and other opposition parties must be condemned by all and sundry,” the statement reads.

The party said it stands firmly with the affected opposition parties in their efforts to challenge the ruling.

“We stand in solidarity with these opposition parties and call on every Nigerian to resist the attempt by the rudderless APC to drift our nation into a one-party state,” it said.

The NDC further warned that actions targeted at one opposition party could ultimately undermine the democratic rights of all political actors and citizens.

“An injury to one is an injury to all,” the statement added.

The ruling has generated reactions from opposition parties, with the ADC already announcing plans to challenge the judgment at the Court of Appeal.
