Biodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti state, has thanked residents for delivering what he described as a historic mandate in the governorship election.
Oyebanji spoke in a post shared on his official X page on Sunday following his re-election victory.
Oyebanji secured a historic victory in the governorship election conducted on Saturday.
The governor won all 16 local government areas of the state, polling 319,224 votes to defeat Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 40,543 votes, and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who scored 12,872 votes.
The victory made him the first incumbent governor in Ekiti’s history to win re-election.
‘The message is clear’
The governor said the outcome of the election reflected the collective will of the people.
According to him, voters across the state spoke with one voice in support of continuity and development.
“The voice of the people has reverberated from every part of our great state, and the message is clear,” he said.
‘I am humbled by this victory’
Furthermore, Oyebanji described the scale of his victory as humbling.
He noted that he secured victories in all 16 local government areas and won about 85 percent of the votes cast.
“I am deeply humbled by the scale of this victory,” he said.
“Securing a clean sweep across all 16 local government areas, and 85% of the popular vote is a humbling vote of confidence from Ekiti Kete.”
‘There are no winners or losers’
Meanwhile, the governor said the result should unite rather than divide the state.
He added that every community, regardless of political affiliation, would benefit from his administration’s programmes.
“From our urban centres to our most remote communities, you have spoken with one thunderous voice for continuous development, stability, and a future of endless opportunities,” he said.
“There are no winners or losers today. There is only one united Ekiti determined to continue its journey of upward mobility.”
Oyebanji pledges to honour mandate
In addition, the governor promised to justify the confidence reposed in him by voters.
He said the renewed mandate would push his administration to work harder for the people.
“This mandate means that our work must touch every household even deeper,” he said.
“I pledge to honour this immense trust by continuing to lead with humility, dedication and fairness.”
Oyebanji concluded by thanking residents for what he described as a historic victory.
“Thank you, Ekiti Kete, for making history with us,” he said.
