Japan sealed a convincing win over Tunisia to confirm the North Africans’ exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Tunisia’s disappointing World Cup campaign continued after a comprehensive 4-0 defeat to Japan in Group F.
Japan took control early and never looked back. Crystal Palace midfielder Daichi Kamada opened the scoring inside four minutes after a swift counter-attack. Ayase Ueda doubled the lead soon after with a clinical strike from the edge of the box.
The Asian side continued to dominate possession and create chances. Junya Ito added a third goal after being played through on goal, while Ueda completed the scoring with a looping header in the second half.
Tunisia struggled throughout the match and offered little attacking threat. Their defence repeatedly left gaps that Japan exploited with ease.
The defeat comes just days after Tunisia suffered a 5-1 loss to Sweden, a result that led to the dismissal of head coach Sabri Lamouchi and the appointment of former Saudi Arabia manager Herve Renard.
Japan now move to four points and are well placed to reach the Round of 32. They will face Sweden in their final group match, while already-eliminated Tunisia take on group leaders Netherlands.
Tunisia leave the World Cup at the group stage once again, while Japan edge closer to the knockout rounds.
