Manchester United agree land deal for proposed 100,000-seater stadium

Manchester United have moved closer to building a new 100,000-capacity stadium after securing most of the required land near Old Trafford.

Manchester United have acquired the majority of the land needed for their proposed new stadium, taking a significant step forward in plans to build a 100,000-seater venue close to their current Old Trafford home.

The club has secured a 25-acre site by purchasing a triangle of roads near the car parks behind the Stretford End. The land is considered sufficient for the construction of the new stadium, although final designs, costs and negotiations with existing leaseholders are still ongoing.

The development is part of the wider Old Trafford regeneration project unveiled by minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in 2025. Club officials say the location will help preserve Old Trafford traditions while improving transport access through Greater Manchester’s Metrolink and rail networks.

A draft masterplan for the wider regeneration project is expected to be unveiled on 9 July, while details of the stadium’s final design and funding arrangements remain under discussion.

The land acquisition marks a major milestone in Manchester United’s ambition to build what could become England’s largest football stadium.
