Erling Haaland scores twice as Norway qualify for World Cup last 32

Erling Haaland scored twice as Norway defeated Senegal 3-2 to secure a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup last 32.

Norway booked their spot in the knockout rounds after a hard-fought victory over Senegal in New Jersey. Marcus Pedersen opened the scoring late in the first half after capitalising on a defensive error by Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly.

Haaland then took control of the match after the break. The Manchester City striker doubled Norway’s lead in the 48th minute after latching onto a precise pass from Martin Odegaard. He added his second goal just minutes later with a composed volley that bounced in off the crossbar.

Senegal fought back through Ismaila Sarr, who scored twice to keep his side in contention. The Crystal Palace forward nearly grabbed a dramatic equaliser in the closing moments but headed over the bar.

The result means Norway have won both of their group matches and advance from Group I alongside France. Haaland’s four goals at this tournament are already the most by any Norwegian player in World Cup history.

Senegal must now beat Iraq in their final group match to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.
