Frank Edoho has finally cleared the air about his exit from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. The popular TV host said he was never sacked. Instead, the show stopped because its longtime sponsor pulled out. He shared the story during a recent episode of The KK Show. Edoho also dismissed reports that claimed he was dropped from the programme. According to him, those reports were simply false.
Before becoming a household name, Edoho worked at Radio Nigeria for four years. However, television changed everything for him. He said,
“I worked for Radio Nigeria… for four years. Once you can work on radio for four years but not get as much popularity or fame as you would if you worked on TV for one month.”
He also explained that the sponsor supported the show for 10 years. Things changed after the Federal Government imposed a heavy fine on the company.
“They said, ‘Hey guys, we can’t do this anymore based on the fact that we have to pay an incredible sum of money back to the Federal Government,’” he recalled.
Meanwhile, Edoho believed he had become an important part of the show after hosting it for many years. As new sponsors showed interest, he pushed to become an executive producer.
He wanted a stake in the programme. However, both sides failed to reach an agreement. Soon after, news reports claimed he had been dropped because he was missing from the show’s relaunch. Edoho insisted that was never true.
“I felt I was thrown under the bus after all the years I put in,” he said.
Edoho hosted Who Wants To Be A Millionaire from 2004 to 2017 before stepping away. The show also went on a five-year break after MTN Nigeria ended its sponsorship. Eventually, the programme returned in 2022 with fresh sponsors, a bigger cash prize and Edoho back as host.
His latest comments have now settled years of rumours about his exit.
