The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially rejected a request to postpone the PDP Ekiti governorship primaries. As a result, the commission reinforced its commitment to the electoral timeline and ensured the process remains transparent and fair.
The request came from Abdulrahman and Anyanwu, two expelled PDP members, who sought to disrupt the scheduled election. However, INEC’s decision confirmed the legitimacy of the Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) and protected the party’s internal democratic process.

Furthermore, the commission had previously recognized Kabiru Turaki as the lawful PDP chairman. Therefore, the ruling effectively sidelined unauthorized attempts to interfere with the primaries. Party officials welcomed the decision, noting that it strengthens internal cohesion and prevents factional disputes.
Election Timeline Remains Intact
Consequently, the Ekiti primaries will proceed as planned. INEC emphasized that adhering to the election schedule is essential for public confidence in the system. Meanwhile, lawmakers and party stakeholders expressed relief, saying the decision safeguards both party integrity and voters’ rights.

In addition, the commission stressed that any further attempts to manipulate election dates will not be tolerated, signaling its commitment to upholding democratic principles. Ultimately, the rejection of the postponement request ensures a smooth and credible electoral process for the PDP in Ekiti State.
