Ogun State Governor and Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has commended President Bola Tinubu for securing the release of the final batch of students abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, in Niger State.
The rescue of the remaining 130 students brings the total number of freed pupils to 230. Security agencies had earlier recovered 100 students earlier in the month, easing fears among families and residents of the Papiri community.
Governor Abiodun said the development strengthens national confidence and proves that criminality and violence cannot triumph over collective resolve.
Rescue Fulfils Presidential Commitment
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abeokuta, Abiodun said the operation fulfilled President Tinubu’s pledge to ensure the safe return of all abducted students.
“I am extremely delighted to learn that the remaining 130 students of St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri community, Niger State, have regained their freedom,” the governor said.
He noted that the students, their parents, the Papiri community, and the Niger State Government endured a difficult and emotionally draining period.
“I rejoice with them in this moment of triumph over the forces of darkness,” Abiodun added.
Governor Praises Security Agencies
The Ogun governor also applauded the President for strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture and improving coordination among agencies.
According to him, the Tinubu administration has shown firm determination to confront kidnapping and terrorist activities across the country.
“If this development shows anything, it confirms that the Bola Tinubu administration remains committed to building a safe, secure and prosperous Nigeria,” Abiodun said.
He urged Nigerians to continue offering prayers and moral support as the government intensifies efforts to tackle insecurity.
Call to Prosecute Perpetrators
Abiodun further praised the security agencies for executing the rescue operation successfully.
However, he stressed the need for sustained action against criminal networks responsible for attacking innocent citizens.
“The security agencies deserve commendation for this achievement,” he said. “They must also pursue and bring the perpetrators to justice, using the full weight of the law.”
The governor expressed confidence that decisive action against criminals would restore public trust and strengthen Nigeria’s standing locally and internationally.
