The African Democratic Congress has alleged that it is being denied access to the Eagle Square ahead of its national convention scheduled for Tuesday.
Kola Ologbondiyan, former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party and a chieftain of the ADC disclosed this in a post on X on Monday, stating that the party had yet to secure a venue less than 24 hours before the event.
According to him, the party had formally written to the office of Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), seeking approval to use Eagle Square, but had not received any response despite acknowledgement of the request.
Ologbondiyan added that the party also approached officials at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium but was denied access to the velodrome.
He further alleged that efforts to secure privately owned event centres in Abuja had been unsuccessful, claiming operators were reluctant to host the party due to fear of harassment from government authorities.
“To make matters worse, privately owned event centres in Abuja are turning down ADC requests for fears of harassment in various forms from the government,” he said.
Despite the development, the party assured members and supporters that the convention would hold as scheduled in Abuja on April 14, 2026.
Ologbondiyan said the party had already notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of its plans and remained committed to proceeding with the event.
