The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has commenced free online membership registration nationwide. The move forms part of preparations for its forthcoming primaries.
The party announced the development in a statement posted on X on Sunday by its national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
Platform Targets Electoral Act Compliance
According to the statement, the new digital platform — adcregistration.ng — will help the party comply with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
The law requires political parties to maintain digital membership registers. Without such registers, parties cannot field candidates for elections.
The ADC said only individuals whose details are fully captured and verified on its official digital register will be eligible to vote or contest in the primaries.
The party recalled that it began a nationwide physical membership registration and revalidation exercise in February. It formally launched the exercise in Abuja last month. It added that Nigerians across several states and in the diaspora showed strong interest.
Revalidation Mandatory for Old Members
Furthermore, the ADC directed members who registered on its previous platform to revalidate their membership on the new portal.
The party explained that the updated system now requires additional mandatory information. This, it said, will ensure full compliance with the Electoral Act and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
It also encouraged support groups and affiliated associations to take advantage of the online window. The groups are to complete the onboarding process on the portal.
Party Raises Concerns Over Electoral Law
However, the ADC said the registration exercise does not affect its objections to certain provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
The party maintained that some aspects of the law give undue advantage to the ruling party. It also faulted the electoral timetable released by INEC.
Despite its reservations, the ADC reaffirmed its commitment to building what it described as a modern, inclusive and citizen-driven political movement.
The party added that the digital registration process aims to remove barriers to entry. It said the goal is to make participation seamless for eligible Nigerians.
