The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced plans to establish a Special Representatives Network in key foreign capitals to strengthen its international engagement and spotlight what it described as attacks on opposition politics in Nigeria.
The initiative was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by Bolaji Abdullahi, national publicity secretary of the party.
Abdullahi said the move is aimed at creating structured channels of communication between the ADC and international stakeholders, including foreign governments, parliamentary bodies, international media, and democracy-support institutions.
He said the decision follows what the party described as a growing pattern of undemocratic practices since July 2025, including attempts to destabilise opposition parties and restrict political participation.
According to him, the network will involve the appointment of credible representatives as envoys in selected global capitals.
“These representatives will serve as official points of contact between the ADC and international actors, while providing regular briefings on political developments in Nigeria,” he said.
Abdullahi added that the representatives will also highlight issues such as human rights concerns, electoral integrity, and allegations of repression against opposition figures.
He said the initiative is designed to ensure that international partners receive balanced and credible information about Nigeria’s political environment.
“The aim is to move beyond reliance on official government narratives and present a fuller picture of developments in the country,” he said.
The party identified cities including Washington DC, London, Brussels, Berlin, Ottawa, Paris, Pretoria, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Accra, Geneva, and New York as locations for the engagement.
Abdullahi said the party will also establish a national documentation initiative to track incidents affecting political participation across the country.
He said state party structures will collect data on threats, harassment, arrests, and disruptions of political activities.
The ADC said the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen its international presence and reinforce its position as a viable democratic alternative committed to accountability and the rule of law.
