ADC Slams Tinubu Over 15% Fuel Import Duty

ADC urges Tinubu to reverse 15% fuel import duty in Nigeria

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has asked President Bola Tinubu to immediately reverse the new 15% import duty on petrol and diesel. The party warned that the move would worsen economic hardship and make fuel prices unbearable for citizens.

Policy ‘Insensitive and Ill-Timed’ — Abdullahi

In a Friday statement, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the policy as “insensitive, ill-timed, and ill-conceived.” He said Nigerians are already suffering from subsidy removal and naira devaluation, and the new duty would further stretch household income.

ADC Questions Rationale

The party questioned the need for the levy, especially since the Port Harcourt refinery collapsed months after a $1.5 billion rehabilitation. It said policies should protect citizens, not punish them, urging Tinubu to withdraw the duty immediately.

Conclusion

The ADC said Nigerians deserve a government that plans with empathy, not one that deepens their suffering.
