AFCON 2025: Nigeria Beat Uganda 3–1 to Finish Group C Perfectly

Nigeria maintained their perfect record at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a 3–1 victory over Uganda in their final Group C match on Tuesday. The Super Eagles delivered a confident performance at the Fez Stadium, Morocco, to finish the group stage with maximum points.

Furthermore, the win confirmed Nigeria as Group C winners, while Uganda exited the tournament after finishing bottom.

Onuachu Breaks the Deadlock

Paul Onuachu opened the scoring in the 28th minute, converting from close range after meeting a low cross from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. The goal reflected Nigeria’s dominance during the opening exchanges.

Moreover, the Super Eagles controlled possession and created several chances, while Uganda struggled to contain their pace and movement.

Onyedika Seals Victory After the Break

Nigeria increased the tempo after halftime and doubled their lead in the 62nd minute. Samuel Chukwueze supplied the assist, squaring the ball for Raphael Onyedika, who finished calmly into the bottom left corner.

Five minutes later, Onyedika struck again. This time, he fired into the bottom right corner from 15 yards after latching onto another Chukwueze cut-back following a swift attacking move.

Uganda’s Consolation Goal

On the other hand, Uganda managed a late consolation despite playing with 10 men. In the 75th minute, substitute Okello released Mato, who chipped goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.

Yet, the Cranes could not mount a comeback, as Nigeria comfortably saw out the match.

Group C Final Standings

In conclusion, Nigeria finished top of Group C with nine points, winning all three matches. Uganda ended the group stage bottom and bowed out of the competition.
