The Akwa Ibom State Police Command detained 30 suspected drug dealers during raids across the state. Officials disclosed the arrests on Monday in Uyo. This action formed part of a renewed effort to combat drug trafficking.
Details of Operations
Timfon John, the police public relations officer, explained the operations. She stated, “The command had intensified its intelligence driven and sustained crackdown on dealers of Indian hemp and other illicit substances across the state.”
Additionally coordinated raids targeted identified flashpoints and criminal hideouts. These actions relied on actionable intelligence and occurred simultaneously.
Recovered Items
Authorities recovered significant quantities of suspected prohibited drugs during the raids. John added, “The coordinated raids in various identified flashpoints have resulted in multiple arrests and the recovery of significant quantities of suspected prohibited drugs.” The substances included Indian hemp and other illicit items.
Status of Suspects
The 30 suspects remained in custody following the arrests. John noted, “No fewer than 30 suspects are currently in custody while 20 will be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.” Investigations continued to build cases against them.
Commissioner’s Directive
Baba Azare, the commissioner of police, directed the sustained operations. He issued a stern warning to drug traffickers. Azare declared, “Individuals engaged in the unlawful trade of Indian hemp and other illicit substances should cease immediately or vacate Akwa Ibom.” Furthermore he emphasized that the state no longer served as a safe haven for such activities.
Broader Implications
John highlighted the links between drugs and crime. She explained, “The proliferation of illicit drugs is linked to cultism, armed robbery, other violent crimes, and erosion of family and community values.” Meanwhile the command reinforced surveillance and inter-agency collaborations.
Call for Community Support
Officials urged public involvement. John called on parents and leaders to provide information. She said, “The command is resolute in dismantling networks threatening the state’s safety and future.” This partnership aimed to enhance security efforts.
