Anthony Joshua Discharged From Hospital After Fatal Lagos-Ibadan Crash

British-Nigerian boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital following a fatal road accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The crash occurred on Monday morning. As a result, two of his close friends, Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami, lost their lives. Meanwhile, other passengers sustained injuries and received medical attention.

Doctors kept Joshua under observation for several hours. However, they discharged him late Tuesday after confirming that he was clinically stable. Consequently, medical officials advised him to continue his recovery at home.

Anthony Joshua Mourns Friends as States Offer Condolences

Meanwhile, the Lagos and Ogun state governments expressed condolences to the bereaved families. In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, officials described the incident as tragic and painful.

The statement was co-signed by Gbenga Omotoso, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, and Kayode Akinmade, Ogun State Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

According to the statement, the two state governments sympathised deeply with the families of the deceased. Furthermore, officials prayed for strength and comfort for the loved ones left behind.

They also noted that Anthony Joshua remains emotionally affected. Nevertheless, they confirmed that doctors declared him fit for discharge after proper medical evaluation.

Anthony Joshua Visits Funeral Home, Commends Medical Care

Later that same day, Anthony Joshua and his mother visited a Lagos funeral home. There, they paid their final respects to the deceased. Subsequently, funeral officials prepared the bodies for repatriation.

In addition, the Lagos and Ogun governments praised the medical team at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi. They commended the doctors and nurses for their swift response and professionalism during treatment.

Similarly, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu thanked the public for its support. They also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his concern during the period.

Preliminary findings show that the accident happened around 11 a.m. The Lexus Jeep conveying Joshua collided with a stationary truck on the busy expressway. For now, authorities continue investigations and have urged patience as officials manage the aftermath.
