Osun 2026: APC Disqualifies Omisore, Six Aspirants From Primary

Osun 2026: APC Disqualifies Omisore, Six Aspirants From Primary

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Screening Committee has barred former National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore, and six others from the APC Osun governorship primary scheduled for December 13.

This decision followed a detailed review of all nomination documents. According to the committee, each aspirant must show proof of sponsorship. Specifically, five financially up-to-date and registered members from every local government area must endorse them. However, several aspirants failed to meet this rule.

Why Key Aspirants Were Disqualified

The committee, led by Chief Obinna Uzoh, completed its assignment on December 4, 2025. It then submitted its report to the APC National Working Committee in Abuja.

Omisore, Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki, and Senator Babajide Omoworare failed to present valid sponsorship documents. As a result, they were disqualified from the APC Osun governorship primary.

In addition, committee members carefully examined all forms. They also held interviews with each aspirant. During this process, they assessed knowledge of party rules and level of compliance. Consequently, they found serious gaps in several submissions.

Only Two Aspirants Cleared for APC Osun Governorship Primary

Meanwhile, the committee approved Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. Although a petition challenged their eligibility, the panel dismissed the claims.

Instead, it confirmed that both aspirants met all requirements outlined in the APC constitution. Furthermore, they provided complete sponsorship lists and valid documentation. Therefore, they were cleared to contest in the APC Osun governorship primary.

APC Urges Unity Ahead of 2026 Election

However, the committee noted that the Osun APC remains divided. Therefore, it advised the national leadership to begin reconciliation immediately.

According to the panel, unity will ensure a smooth primary process. Moreover, it will strengthen the party’s chances in the August 8, 2026 election.

Finally, the committee recommended fair distribution of offices and campaign roles. By doing so, the party can reduce internal tensions and rebuild confidence among members.
