‘Utterly baseless’ — APC Dismisses Claims of Shettima’s Replacement in 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed rumours that Vice President Kashim Shettima will be replaced as running mate to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Felix Morka, the national publicity secretary of the APC, said this in a statement on Monday.

Details of the Statement

The APC said it is more focused on supporting the president and his vice to deliver on the renewed hope agenda. APC described the rumours as “purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless.”

The party said that under the laws and electoral regulations, the ban on political activities remains in force. Morka called on ministers and senior government officials to desist from any action that can fuel the rumour.

Background to the Issue

There have been speculations that Tinubu will not be running for the presidency with Shettima in 2027.

Implication for 2027

Now that the APC has dismissed the rumour, it is likely that Shettima will remain Tinubu’s running mate, but like they say, “in politics, 24 hours is a long time.”
