Fashedemi explained the transition followed the completion of a solar power project. “We are hopeful that maybe by March we’ll be able to do a full cutover,” he said. Additionally, he highlighted that the move delivered significant cost savings for the government.

Solar Project Overview

Fashedemi noted the State House Medical Centre operated on solar since May 2025 without generator use. “I have to say that since that time, the generator in that State House Medical Centre has not been put on for one minute since May last year,” he stated.

Budget Defense Interactions

Moreover Lawan, the Senator from Borno Central who chaired the committee, commended the State House for timely appearance. “If the State House would appear before this committee as you did, we see no reason why other ministries, departments, and agencies will not come,” he said.

However Lawan criticized the N127 million allocation for SUV vehicles as inadequate. “I will join my colleague Aminu in also rejecting N127m for SUV cars in the Villa,” he added.

Power Challenges and Resolutions

Previously, the Villa accumulated electricity debts. The Abuja Electricity Distribution in addition, Company listed an outstanding bill of N923.87 million in February 2024, later revised to N342.35 million after reconciliation.

Bola Tinubu, the President, ordered immediate settlement. During testing, Fashedemi uncovered overbilling. “What we have discovered in the course of all of this, especially during the testing phase, is that there’s been a lot of overbilling,” he explained.
