Gunmen launched a brutal assault in Bekkersdal township near Johannesburg early Sunday morning. Around 12 attackers arrived in two vehicles and opened fire at a local tavern. They targeted patrons inside before shooting randomly at people in the streets. This incident happened shortly before 1 a.m. local time, catching many off guard.
Furthermore, witnesses described a scene of mayhem as bullets rang out. Victims included a ride sharing driver waiting outside a bar. The assailants fled rapidly following the attack.

Ten people died, and a further 10 were injured. The victims belonged to various social backgrounds, some being civilians who were out to enjoy the night.
