Atiku Registers with ADC for 2027 Elections, Sparks Controversy

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar officially registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday, marking a significant political move ahead of the 2027 general elections. The registration has already sparked controversies, drawing criticism from prominent figures in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Former Edo State governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, and APC Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Duru, slammed Atiku, describing him as a “serial loser” who has failed to stabilize any political party he has joined. Their remarks followed Atiku picking up his ADC membership card at Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State.

Oshiomhole Criticizes Atiku’s Political Record

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Oshiomhole called Atiku a serial defector and questioned his presidential ambitions for 2027.

“He was a founding member of the PDP, not the APC, and his predictions about the PDP’s future have largely materialized,” Oshiomhole said. According to him, Atiku abandoned the party instead of reforming it for future leaders. He later joined the APC, lost the primaries to Buhari, and returned to the PDP. This pattern demonstrates his inability to rebuild or lead any party successfully.

Oshiomhole emphasized that Atiku’s political history shows a clear trend of abandoning parties after losing elections. “If he could not fix his party, how can he fix Nigeria?” he asked.

Duru Weighs in on Opposition Dynamics

Nze Duru also weighed in on the evolving opposition landscape ahead of 2027, highlighting the fluidity of party alignments. According to Duru, “We cannot yet determine which party will emerge as the main opposition. The ADC, PDP, and Labour Party are positioning themselves, and the political terrain is still forming.”

He added that the APC would not underestimate any challenger despite ongoing debates over the opposition’s structure. Duru stressed that careful observation is needed before drawing conclusions about the main opposition party.
