The Nigeria Police Force has launched a nationwide online awareness campaign titled “Real Odogwu No Dey Hide Face” aimed at combating cybercrime and promoting safer online practices among Nigerians.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC). This will run for one month and focus on strengthening digital security awareness across the country.

Rising Cyber Threats in the Digital Space
Speaking at the Real Odogwu No Dey Hide Face launch event in Abuja, the Director of the NPF-NCCC, Ifeanyi Uche Henry, said. “The campaign is a response to the growing threat of cybercrime affecting individuals and businesses.
He explained that cybercriminals increasingly exploit lack of awareness among internet users. Leading to various forms of digital fraud and exploitation. Some of the major threats highlighted include:
- Identity theft
- Romance scams
- Business Email Compromise (BEC)
- Sextortion
- Phishing attacks
According to him, many of these crimes succeed because victims unknowingly expose sensitive information online.
Warning to Cybercriminals
The cybercrime director also issued a warning to individuals involved in online fraud, noting that the Centre’s Cyberhawk teams are equipped with advanced digital tracking technology capable of identifying and prosecuting offenders.
He stressed that law enforcement agencies are continuously improving their investigative tools. Able to detect and dismantle cybercrime networks operating both within and outside Nigeria.
International Collaboration
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, commended the support of the UK National Crime Agency. And the City of London Police in strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to fight cybercrime.
He noted that international cooperation is essential in addressing cyber threats, which often transcend national borders.
Key Online Safety Tips for Nigerians
As part of the awareness campaign, the police advised citizens to adopt stronger cyber-hygiene practices, including:
- Protecting financial details such as ATM PINs, OTPs, and BVNs
- Using strong passwords and multi-factor authentication
- Avoiding suspicious links or urgent messages designed to manipulate victims
- Protecting personal and corporate information through secure communication channels
- Verifying information before sharing or responding online
Promoting Responsible Digital Behaviour
The Nigeria Police said the Real Odogwu No Dey Hide Face campaign is not only aimed at deterring cybercriminals. It’s also empowering Nigerians to become more vigilant internet users.
Officials emphasized that protecting digital identities should be treated with the same seriousness as safeguarding physical valuables. Especially in an era where financial transactions, communication, and business activities increasingly take place online.
The campaign forms part of the police force’s broader strategy to create a safer digital environment. While strengthening public awareness about the risks and responsibilities of operating in the digital space.
