Baba Ijesha Released as Court Overturns Sexual Assault Judgment

Nollywood actor Baba Ijesha case overturned by Court of Appeal

Nollywood actor Olarenwaju Omiyinka, widely known as Baba Ijesha, has been released from prison after the Court of Appeal overturned his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor.

Appeal Court Nullifies Conviction

The actor was arrested in 2021 and, in July 2022, a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja sentenced him to 16 years in prison. He was convicted on several counts linked to the alleged assault of a 14-year-old girl.

However, the Court of Appeal has now set aside the judgment. As a result, Baba Ijesha regained his freedom after spending more than two years in custody.

Video Shows Actor Moments After Release

Shortly after his release, a video began circulating on social media. The clip showed Baba Ijesha seated inside a vehicle, looking relieved and exhausted.

In a brief phone call recorded in the video, he spoke partly in Yoruba as he confirmed that he had just left custody. “Apase, I’m out… I just came out,” he said. He added that he needed time to rest and thanked supporters who stood by him during the legal battle.

Yomi Fabiyi Reacts to Judgment

Confirming the development, Nollywood actor and activist Yomi Fabiyi celebrated the Appeal Court’s ruling. In a post on Instagram, he stated that the decision had finally brought clarity to what he called a “mishandled case.”

Fabiyi has been one of the most vocal figures calling for fairness in the proceedings since the actor’s initial arrest.

What Comes Next

With the ruling now delivered, many expect renewed public debate over the case, especially because it attracted widespread attention, industry reactions, and strong public emotions. Nevertheless, the Appeal Court’s decision marks a significant turning point in the long-running controversy.
