Badaru Speaks Out: No Defection, No Doubt

Former Nigerian Defence Minister Breaks Silence On Political Rumours

Former Minister of Defence of Nigeria, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has publicly denied reports suggesting that he is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress for the African Democratic Congress, insisting that the claims are baseless and misleading.

Background To The Defection Speculation

The defection rumours emerged against the backdrop of an ongoing political disagreement within the Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Nigeria’s ruling party. The tension reportedly involves Badaru and his successor, Governor Umar Namadi, who currently serves as the Governor of Jigawa State.

Party insiders revealed that disagreements over governance style, political appointments, and party structure have contributed to dissatisfaction among some supporters of the former governor.

These internal challenges have, in turn, sparked speculation about possible defections by aggrieved party members.
Badaru’s Firm Response
In response to the growing rumours, Badaru released a statement through his Media Aide, Mati Ali, which he personally signed, firmly rejecting the defection narrative.

“I categorically state that the report is entirely false, unfounded, and a product of political mischief,” the former minister said.

He reiterated that his political identity remains firmly tied to the All Progressives Congress, a party he played a significant role in founding.

“My loyalty to the party remains absolute and unwavering,” Badaru added.

Call For Calm And Unity

The former governor also appealed to party members and the general public to ignore the reports, stressing that he has no plans to abandon the party.
“I remain a dedicated member of the party and have no intention whatsoever of leaving the All Progressives Congress,” he said.

Implications For Jigawa APC

Political analysts believe Badaru’s clarification could help reduce tensions within the Jigawa State All Progressives Congress and encourage reconciliation efforts between rival factions. Observers note that public reassurance from influential figures like Badaru is crucial for maintaining party stability ahead of future electoral cycles.
