Victim Details
Samuel, a forest guard, sustained fatal gunshot wounds during the gun battle. Medical personnel confirmed his death shortly after. Authorities transported his body to Egbe Hospital in neighboring Kogi State for storage in the mortuary.
An anonymous security member stated, “The incident happened around 1pm; the fully armed bandits, about fifteen of them, had entered the community through the forests, shooting sporadically into the air.” The source added that the bandits retreated into the thick forests after the killing, and none faced arrest.
Additionally the bandits set over five motorcycles ablaze during the raid. This destruction compounded the chaos in the area.
Community Response
Following the incident, tension gripped Koro as more forest guards and hunters deployed to strategic positions. They aimed to prevent further assaults. Residents received advice to report suspicious activities promptly.
Neighboring communities in Kogi State, such as Egbe and Ogbe, also heightened vigilance. Security agencies remained unreachable for official comments at the time.
In a related development, the state government initiated settlements for displaced victims from similar attacks in nearby areas. Joint forces, including soldiers and police, reinforced security in affected zones.
