Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State, raised concerns about bandits controlling ungoverned spaces. He highlighted the issue during a visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Moreover, he appealed for federal help to address the threat.
Meeting with President
Mohammed met President Bola Tinubu to discuss the security crisis. He briefed the president on bandit activities in Alkaleri Local Government Area. Moreover he described how bandits emerged from the Daji Dam area and clashed with security forces.
Details of Insecurity
Bandits invaded villages in Gwana District, where they killed residents and abducted others. This forced thousands to flee their homes. Additionally, the criminals regrouped in forests like Madam Forest, bordering Taraba, Gombe, and Plateau states.
Official Statements
Mohammed stated, “Some bandits have become so emboldened and they have taken over so many ungoverned spaces there, coming out from the Daji Dam area.” He warned, “The situation could spiral into a humanitarian crisis if not swiftly contained.” However Tinubu ordered security agencies to contain the insecurity.
Humanitarian Aid
Mohammed donated N50 million to support displaced persons. This aid aimed to alleviate suffering in affected communities. Furthermore, security operations arrested one suspected bandit in Alkaleri.
Ongoing Efforts
Authorities vowed to prevent ungoverned spaces from persisting. Meanwhile police and other agencies intensified patrols. This response marked a step toward restoring peace in Bauchi State.
