The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has directed Air Component Commanders under Operation Whirl Stroke to be merciless in operations against bandits destabilising communities in the North Central region. He urged commanders to intensify air missions and maintain firm pressure on criminal groups.
CAS Pushes for Faster, Intelligence-Led Missions
Aneke gave the order during his first operational visit to the Tactical Air Command in Makurdi on Friday.
NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame said the Air Chief wants commanders to expand operations in their Areas of Responsibility and sustain support for ongoing joint military campaigns.
He explained that the Nigerian Air Force is shifting toward intelligence-led and technology-driven operations. According to him, modern surveillance systems, improved combat platforms and precision weapons will guide the next phase of engagements.
Air Chief Emphasises Readiness and Welfare
“This is not the time to slow down,” Aneke said, stressing that Nigerians expect mission-ready air power at all times. He listed aircraft serviceability, weapons readiness and personnel proficiency as key elements of success.
Aneke also highlighted his ‘Welfare for Enhanced Warfare’ policy. He said officers cannot deliver peak performance without adequate support, and he pledged improvements in allowances, accommodation, medical care and administrative systems.
He encouraged open communication from personnel, promising to address the most urgent welfare concerns through a structured plan.
NAF Commends Federal Support
The Air Chief noted that the Federal Government has made major investments in aircraft, armaments and advanced training. He said the Air Force must justify that confidence through measurable results anchored in professionalism and discipline.
Air Vice Marshal Patrick Obeya, Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, thanked the CAS for clear guidance and reaffirmed TAC’s readiness to deliver decisive air power whenever required.
Aneke praised their dedication but warned that Nigeria’s current security environment demands constant vigilance. He said the NAF will continue building a safe, supportive and efficient system that enhances combat effectiveness and career development.
