Manchester United Secure Signing of RB Leipzig Striker Benjamin Šeško in £73.7 Million Deal.
Manchester United have officially confirmed the high-profile signing of Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, in a transfer valued at a total of £73.7 million. The 22-year-old forward has agreed to a five-year contract with the Premier League club, marking another significant addition to United’s attacking line-up.
As per the terms of the deal, United will pay a guaranteed fee of £66.3 million to Leipzig, with the remaining £7.4 million structured in performance-based add-ons. This makes Šeško one of the most expensive signings of the summer transfer window and further highlights United’s intent to rebuild their squad under head coach Rúben Amorim.
Šeško becomes the third major attacking acquisition by the Red Devils this summer, joining recent arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Cunha was brought in from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million, while Mbeumo’s switch from Brentford cost £65 million, with an additional £6 million potentially payable in bonuses. The trio were introduced to fans at Old Trafford ahead of United’s pre-season friendly against Fiorentina on Saturday, a match that helped build excitement for the upcoming campaign.
Despite strong interest from other top European clubs, including Newcastle United, Šeško opted to commit his future to Manchester United. Newcastle had been in the running for his signature following their impressive fifth-place finish in the Premier League last season—a campaign that also saw them lift the EFL Cup and qualify for the UEFA Champions League. However, Šeško was convinced by Amorim’s long-term vision and the club’s ambitious project.
In his first official statement as a United player, Šeško expressed his excitement about the move and his belief in the team’s future:
“The history of Manchester United is obviously very special, but what truly excites me is what lies ahead,” he said.
“When I spoke with the club, it became clear that the foundation is already in place for this team to grow, improve, and return to competing for the biggest trophies in world football. From the moment I arrived, I could sense a strong positive atmosphere and a family-like culture that makes this club unique. I believe this is the ideal environment for me to reach my full potential and accomplish my personal and professional goals. I’m really looking forward to learning under Coach Amorim and building strong relationships with my new teammates as we strive for success together.”
United’s head coach Rúben Amorim also shared his thoughts on the signing during an interview with MUTV, expressing his satisfaction with the addition of the talented forward:
“Benjamin is exactly the type of player we’ve been looking for. His physical attributes, technical skill set, and attitude make him a perfect fit for our playing style,” Amorim said.
“In fact, he’s so dedicated and hard-working that we’ll probably have to ask him to slow down! That level of commitment is something we value highly. More importantly, he brings the right mentality into our dressing room, and that’s why we’re absolutely thrilled to have him join our project.”
After a disappointing 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season, Manchester United are hoping their revamped attack and new leadership will lead to a resurgence in form and a return to contention both domestically and in European competitions. With Šeško, Cunha, and Mbeumo now in the ranks, the club is signaling a clear intention to rise back to the top tier of English football.
