Bode George Slams Court Over PDP Ban: “This Is the Joke of the Century”

Outrage Over Abuja Court Ruling
Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has condemned Friday’s ruling by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which stopped the party’s national convention.

George called the judgement “the joke of the century, a recipe for anarchy, and a show of judicial recklessness.”

The Court’s Decision
Justice Omotosho ruled that the PDP broke the 1999 Constitution, INEC guidelines, and its own party constitution.
He also said the party failed to hold valid state congresses before planning to elect national officers.

George Reacts
Speaking with reporters, George said the ruling could shake Nigeria’s democracy.

“This judgment will consume this country,” he said. “It’s time the judge dropped his wig and joined politics. This makes no sense at all.”

He urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and the National Judicial Council (NJC) to step in.

“Any judgment that can cause unrest should be avoided,” he warned. “Has the judiciary gone to the dogs?”

Questions Court’s Power
George said the judge had no right to stop the PDP from holding its convention.

“During our congresses, INEC officials were present and took notes. INEC has not complained. So why is the judge interfering? Does he have a political interest?”

He accused some judges of taking sides and warned that such actions could set democracy on fire.

PDP’s Record
George defended the PDP’s record, saying it has always followed the law since it was founded in 1998.

“We are the oldest and most experienced political party in Nigeria,” he said. “Nobody should teach us how to run our affairs.”

He urged the judiciary to stay neutral and not allow politics to shape its rulings.

Conclusion
The ruling has reopened debate about how much power courts should have over political parties.
Analysts say it also tests the balance between judicial independence and party freedom as Nigeria prepares for future elections.
