Borno security improvement - Governor Zulum with Nigerian Army officers

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno announced that the state’s security has improved significantly, declaring that “the worst is over.” He made the statement during a meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, in Maiduguri on Wednesday.

The governor said that, although attacks still occur, the overall security landscape has improved compared to the peak of Boko Haram and insurgent activities years ago. He emphasized that residents must work closely with security agencies to maintain peace.

Residents Urged to Share Intelligence

Mr. Zulum called on local communities to provide timely intelligence to security forces. “We have witnessed multiple attacks on our communities and security forces, but the worst is over,” he said.

He highlighted that residents’ active cooperation is key to preventing future attacks. “While we grieve any single setback, we see that the worst is behind us. The trajectory moves toward peace, and we commit to sustaining it,” the governor added.

Army Pledges Full Support to Troops

Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shuaibu assured that the army headquarters will supply all necessary logistics and resources to troops operating in Borno. He also praised Governor Zulum for supporting the military’s operations.

“I sincerely thank His Excellency for visiting us at a time like this. We appreciate his support in Borno,” the COAS said. He emphasized that the army trusts the local communities and pledges full backing to help troops achieve their mission.

Troops’ Bravery Recognized

Governor Zulum commended officers and soldiers for their bravery and sacrifices, calling them national heroes. “On behalf of the government and people of Borno, we stand with the officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Armed Forces. We will not take their sacrifices for granted,” he said.

The governor reiterated his commitment to sustaining peace in Borno, urging residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security operations to secure lasting stability in the region.
