Borno: Troops neutralise 5 terrorists, rescue 3 hostages in Kondunga

Troops operating under Operation HADIN KAI have neutralised five terrorists and rescued three abducted civilians during a coordinated military operation in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State. The operation further strengthened ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the North East.

The troops carried out the operation in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). They engaged the terrorists in the early hours of Sunday at a known crossing point along the Sojiri axis, an area frequently used by insurgent elements.

According to the military, actionable intelligence guided the operation. As a result, troops moved decisively and confronted the terrorists as they attempted to transit through the area.

In a statement issued in Maiduguri, the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, confirmed the success of the mission. He said the troops neutralised five terrorists without recording any casualty among security personnel.

Importantly, the Borno operation led to the rescue of three civilians who had been abducted by the terrorists. The troops also recovered AK-47 rifles during the encounter, further degrading the operational capability of the insurgents.

“This operation underscores the commitment of OPHK to offensive action against terrorist elements and the protection of civilians,” the statement said. It also highlighted the strong cooperation between the military and local security partners.

Furthermore, the military said troop morale remains high despite the evolving security situation. According to the statement, security forces continue to dominate the theatre of operations across the North East.

The command reaffirmed that Operation HADIN KAI remains determined to dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace to affected communities. It added that sustained operations would continue in vulnerable areas.

Residents were also urged to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid future operations.
