CAF Investigates Algeria Players After Referee Confrontation

Algeria were one of the countries tipped to reach the latter stages of the AFCON

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have begun investigation into the ugly scenes that followed the Nigeria versus Algeria quarterfinals game in Marrakesh on Saturday evening.

The Super Eagles beat Algeria 2-0 to eliminate the overly confident north Africans from the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Desert Foxes players angrily confronted the match officials after the game to the chargin of the football ruling body on the continent.

In a statement released on Sunday, CAF confirmed that Algerian played and members of the technical crew confronted match officials immediately after the final whistle.

The situation escalated as some of the Algerian contingent followed the referees into the tunnel.

The act was described by CAF as “unacceptable” and in clear violation of the competition’s disciplinary regulations.

There were also clashes involving journalists and other media personal.

Algeria players in a viral video before the game we’re seen taunting Nigerian players and threatening to send them to the Zambisa forest in search of terrorists and bandits.

Nigeria will face Morocco in the semifinals of the tournament on Wednesday evening.
