‘Apologise to Nigerians Over Coup Plot Denial’ — Falana Tells Military

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, says the Nigerian Military should apologise to Nigerians for denying reports that some soldiers plotted a coup against President Bola Tinubu.

What Happened Before

On Monday, the Defense Headquarters admitted that some soldiers planned a coup to overthrow Tinubu. Before this, the government and the military had dismissed reports of a coup plot against Tinubu.

Details of the Story

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Tuesday, Falana said that the military misinformed Nigerians.

He said that the defense headquarters erred by not acknowledging that it had denied a true story as was reported by the media.

“Yesterday, the military authorities ought to have apologised to Nigerians. People in authority must learn to take us seriously as a people,” he said.

Implication of What Falana Said

The senior lawyer has taken a swipe at the military, calling for more accountability from those in government. This also shows that the government and the military were not truthful to Nigerians from the outset of the issue.
