Crossover Night: Police Prohibit Tyre Burning, Threaten Arrest

The Nasarawa State Police Command has banned the burning of used tyres during crossover night activities. The ban applies across the state ahead of New Year celebrations.

The directive was announced on Tuesday in Lafia. It came through a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel.

Strict Enforcement Ordered

Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to enforce the ban. He warned that officers would arrest offenders immediately.

According to the police, anyone caught burning tyres will face prosecution. The command said it would show no tolerance for violations.

Why Police Issued the Ban

The police said tyre burning threatens public safety. It also damages government and private infrastructure.

Moreover, the practice causes air pollution and blocks traffic flow. Authorities warned that it increases fire risks during festive celebrations.

Vulcanisers and Parents Advised

The commissioner advised vulcanisers to remove used tyres from their workshops daily. He said this would prevent unauthorised access.

Parents and guardians were also urged to caution their wards. The police warned against unlawful conduct during celebrations.

Police Assure Residents

In conclusion, the police assured residents of adequate security throughout the festive period. Officers will remain deployed across the state.

The command encouraged public cooperation. It said peaceful celebrations depend on respect for the law.
