DHQ Assures Nigerians of Tight Christmas Security With Air Support

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has assured Nigerians of strong security arrangements ahead of the Christmas festivities across the country.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Micheal Onoja, said the Armed Forces of Nigeria have intensified operations nationwide. He explained that the military is working closely with other security agencies to prevent attacks and ensure peaceful celebrations.

Troops and Air Support Activated Nationwide

Onoja said the Armed Forces have deployed additional troops to strategic locations and major routes identified as vulnerable. He added that the military has also placed special forces units and air support elements on high alert to guarantee swift response to any threat.

“The DHQ wishes to inform the public that robust and proactive measures aimed at preventing attacks during the Christmas festivities are now in place,” the statement said.

Furthermore, the Armed Forces continue to coordinate operations with sister security agencies to strengthen nationwide coverage.

Surveillance and Patrols Strengthened

The Defence Headquarters said it has stepped up surveillance activities to monitor the movement of suspected criminal groups. These measures include increased aerial monitoring and targeted intelligence gathering.

In addition, Onoja said the military directed unit commanders across operational areas to strengthen patrols and establish fortified checkpoints at critical locations.

He also noted that commanders now maintain close collaboration with community leaders, local vigilante groups, and state security formations. According to him, this approach improves intelligence sharing and early threat detection.

DHQ Urges Public Vigilance

The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property during the festive period.

However, Onoja stressed that public cooperation remains vital to national security. He urged citizens to remain calm, stay vigilant, and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security formation.

He assured Nigerians that security agencies would treat all reports with urgency and confidentiality.

In conclusion, Onoja conveyed goodwill messages from the Chief of Defence Staff, General OO Oluyede. He said the CDS wished Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, while reaffirming the military’s readiness to secure the festive season nationwide.
