FG Launches Digital Platform to Boost Women’s Economic Inclusion

The Federal Government has introduced a new online platform, the Happy Woman App. To promote greater economic inclusion for women in Nigeria.

According to a statement from the Presidency, the app provides a secure digital space. It’s designed to connect women with financial resources, skills development opportunities, markets, essential services, and government support.

The launch coincided with President Bola Tinubu’s announcement of the expansion of the Nigeria for Women Programme (NFWP). This initiative aims to reach 25 million women across the country. Building on the success of a pilot phase conducted in six states, which engaged over one million women.

Key Highlights from the Launch

At the official launch held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Tinubu, emphasized the critical role of women in Nigeria’s development. He stated, “A country that marginalizes its women is a country on the brink of failure. This administration is committed to placing women at the center of decision-making and leadership to fulfill our national potential.”

The President highlighted the importance of women not only in driving economic growth but also in ensuring family and community stability. He called the plan to empower 25 million women “bold yet achievable”. He urged the World Bank to strengthen its financial, technical, and innovation partnerships. To support the nationwide rollout of the program.

Technology as a Catalyst for Inclusion

President Tinubu underscored the role of technology in fostering economic inclusion. Stating that digital tools are now essential for effective service delivery and enhancing national competitiveness.

As part of the government’s broader social agenda, the President declared 2026 as the Year of Social Development and Families in Nigeria. This initiative aims to align efforts at federal, state, and local levels to strengthen family cohesion and improve social welfare systems.

The announcement follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed during the President’s official visit to Turkey in January, which focused on consolidating family welfare and social development strategies.
