Ebo Taylor, Ghanian highlife legend, dies at 90

Ebo Taylor, the iconic Ghanaian guitarist, composer, and bandleader who played a key role in shaping and popularizing the highlife music genre, has passed away at the age of 90.

The news was shared by his family on his official Instagram page. Though they did not reveal the cause of death.

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) also confirmed the sad news. Stating that Taylor died at Saltpond Hospital in Ghana’s Central Region.

His passing has left a deep void in Ghana’s creative community and among music lovers worldwide.

In an emotional tribute, MUSIGA called Taylor’s death the loss of a true legend. “The world has lost a giant. A colossus of African music,” the statement read. “Ebo Taylor passed away yesterday, just one day after the launch of the Ebo Taylor Music Festival and exactly a month after his 90th birthday. His unmatched artistry and legacy will live on. Your light will never fade.”
