Edo Governor Okpebholo Flags Off 100MW Power Plant, LNG Facility in Ologbo

The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has officially performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a 100MW power plant and a 300-metric-tonnes-per-day liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility at the Taihu Industrial Park in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

The project is expected to strengthen electricity supply in the state while boosting industrial development and economic growth in the region.

Boosting Power Supply in Edo

The planned 100MW power plant is designed to significantly increase electricity availability for industries and surrounding communities. With Nigeria facing persistent power shortages, the new facility is expected to support stable energy supply for businesses operating within the industrial park and nearby areas.

Government officials say the project will also reduce dependence on diesel generators, lowering operational costs for industries while promoting cleaner and more efficient energy solutions.

LNG Facility to Support Energy Needs

Alongside the power plant, the project will include a 300-metric-tonnes-per-day liquefied natural gas facility, which will help provide fuel for power generation and other industrial uses.

The LNG plant is expected to support the state’s growing energy demand and contribute to the development of gas-based industries within Edo State.

Driving Industrial Growth

The development at Taihu Industrial Park forms part of the state government’s strategy to attract investors and transform Edo into a key industrial hub in southern Nigeria.

Analysts believe improved power infrastructure could encourage more manufacturing companies to establish operations in the state, creating jobs and boosting economic activities.

Strengthening Edo’s Economic Future

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, officials emphasized that the project represents a major step toward improving infrastructure and creating a more business-friendly environment.

Once completed, the power plant and LNG facility are expected to play a crucial role in strengthening Edo State’s energy capacity, supporting industrial expansion, and improving economic opportunities for residents.
